Originally The Reliance Jute Mills Company Limited (“the Company”) was incorporated on 25th October, 1906 under the Indian Companies Act, VI of 1882 which owned the Jute Mill situated at Bhatpara, 24 Parganas (North), on the bank of the river Hooghly in West Bengal and was running under the management of Jardine Henderson Limited (a Company in U. K.). During the year 1963, the Mill was taken over by Indian Management i.e. Kanoria Family. The name of the Company was changed as The Reliance Jute & Industries Limited (“the Company”) with effect from 20th April, 1971.
Subsequently, under a Scheme of Arrangement between the Company and other two Companies viz. RJM Fibre Industries Limited and RJM Investments Limited, Jute Unit of the Company was transferred to RJM Fibre Industries Limited and Investments Division was transferred to RJM Investments Limited vide an Order passed by Hon’ble Calcutta High Court on 17th April, 1989.
On 9th November, 1992, the name of RJM Fibre Industries Limited was changed to Reliance Jute Limited and again under another Scheme of Arrangement between Reliance Jute Limited and Reliance Jute Mills (International) Limited which was incorporated on 18th September, 1996, Jute Unit of Reliance Jute Limited was transferred to Reliance Jute Mills (International) Limited vide an Order passed by Hon’ble Calcutta High Court on 16th July, 1997. Thus, Reliance Jute Mills (International) Limited acquired and owned the Mill viz. Reliance Jute Mill by virtue of this Scheme of Arrangement.
Consequent upon a Sale Purchase Agreement dated 21st April, 2022, the Company with its Mill has been taken over by Shri Surendra Kumar Agarwal and Shri Sunil Jain along with their family members with effect from 2nd July, 2022.
Shri Surendra Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of the Company, is a Commerce Graduate from Calcutta University and he has vast experience over a period of 36 years in the area of finance, accounts, banking, administration, etc. On the strength of rich and vast experience, dedication towards work and his developmental plans, he is poised for turning around the Company and taking it to a new height of growth.
Shri Mayank Goyal, son of Shri Surendra Kumar Agarwal and a Director of the Company, is B. Com., CA, CS. He has over 11 years of experience in the area of finance and administration. He has brilliant professional skills and his decision making capacity is excellent.
Shri Akhil Jain, son of Shri Sunil Jain and a Director of the Company, is B. Com., MBA and he has over 11 years of experience in the area of marketing. His marketing skills are excellent.
The Company is under the control of experienced as well as young, dynamic and professionally qualified management. The management is full of enthusiasm to change the past foggy phase of the Company into a brighter one.

The Company is one of the pioneers of non-traditional jute products e.g. decorative fabrics and jute yarn, both ideally for high quality export markets. In addition to the above, there are other new areas like food grade Jute Products which are free from any hydrocarbon and Soil Saver. The principal products of the Company are Sacking Bags, Jute Yarn and Hessian Cloth. Considering the global scenario, the future of the Company looks very bright and the present management is taking necessary steps to achieve the desired goal. Diversification of the Company’s products is the need of hour and the management is also working in this directions.
The Company has obtained OEKO TEX Certification from Belgium. Further, the Company won the recognition of ISO 9001-2015 certificates for the excellence in quality. The Company’s motto is to attain and follow delivery schedules so as to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

The turnover of the Company for the year ended 31st March, 20223, was approximately Rs. 305 Crores. The approach of the present management is to turn around the company shortly and to achieve the best results and growth in years to come. Concrete steps are being taken by the management for efficient maintenance of Plant & Machinery and also for its up-gradation and modernization. Progressive R & D measures are being carried out towards the goal.
Shri Sunil Jain, Managing Director of the Company, is a Commerce Graduate from Delhi University and he has vast experience in the area of marketing over a period of 31 years. His marketing skill is awesome. He is committed to expand the market share of the Company in domestic as well as in overseas market. Under his guidance the Company is bound to grow in short span of time.
